After being housed in a kiosk on the market for years, Ice Shop Venezia obtained a permanent location. To get permission from the municipality and aesthetics committee an important condition was to make a transparent building. Together with the architectural office De Twee Snoeken, Octatube has pursued this.
By using large glass panels to minimize construction, the ice cream bar does little impact on the space of the square, despite the footprint of ten by ten meters. In the glass corner between the façade and roof light there is no construction at all, and the roof has no parapet.
The indoor climate is pleasant in the summer because a coating was applied on the isolation glass. In addition, the indoor space is naturally ventilated by two skylights and two doors. In the winter, a heating installation makes the space a comfortable place to stay and have a coffee.
