Installation of Glass for City Offices

For the new city offices in Utrecht, designed by Kraaijvanger, Octatube has started with the installation of the 220 glass panels of the large and innovative curtain wall. Earlier, the large horizontal steel trusses and the steel swords had been installed.

The curtain wall near the Utrecht CS train station is 1104 square meters. The double laminated double glass units of 1,2 by 3,6 meters are point fixed to the swords, that are connected to the floors and 5 large horizontal trusses. These trusses are elegantly suspended from a lattice girder at the top of the atrium, making the structural facade very transparent.
Extraordinary about this facade is the suspension and the dilation at the ground floor level, enabling the facade to move vertically.
