Nomination Glas Award for renovation Channel 4
The iconic cablenet facade of the Grade II-listed Channel 4 headquarters in London – designed by Richard Rogers – has been completely renovated. Minimal adjustments were made to the original design, with a focus on reusing materials to minimize CO2 emissions. The facade also meets current safety principles for glass design.
It consists of a refined structural combination of warm-bent glass panels and stainless steel components. Various elements of the facade form structural loops: removing or altering one element can lead to an unstable structure. The result respects the heritage while ensuring longevity and relevance.
With the nomination for the Glas Award 2025, this remarkable project not only receives international recognition (thanks to two SFE Facade 2024 Design and Engineering Awards and a nomination for the Structural Awards 2024), but also national appreciation in the Netherlands.
The Glas Award has long been the prestigious and leading industry prize in the glass sector, focusing on the application of specialist glass in both interior and exterior settings. Out of 26 submissions, Channel 4, along with three other notable projects, has been shortlisted. The 12th Glas Award ceremony will take place on 6 February 2025.
