OWO Courtyard Pavilion wins Dutch National Steel Award 2024le Staalprijs 2024
The jury was impressed by the technical achievement and ingenuity, and has therefore awarded The OWO Courtyard Pavilion the National Steel Prize in the Utility Construction category. In the Grand Courtyard of The OWO, the former Old War Office (London, UK), a contemporary pavilion has been realised. The 165sqm circular pavilion, designed by DaeWha Kang Designs, features a striking mirror-polished 3D stainless steel roof. The extraordinary geometry has no straight lines, which required bespoke solutions and skilled craftsmanship.
Technical Details
Octatube translated the design into a technical proposal, optimised the steel structure, and constructed the pavilion. We designed a slender and lightweight steel construction to minimise its impact on the historical surroundings. Furthermore, the focus on demountability and reuse of the entire structure influenced the design and detailing. It was a complex and challenging task that required a high degree of skill, expertise, and attention to detail from all partners involved.
Collaborative achievement
Thanks to excellent collaboration, the result is a true eye-catcher. We are proud and honoured that the project has been awarded the National Steel Prize 2024. Congratulations to all involved!
