Shortlisted for Façade 2023 Design and Engineering Awards
Three recent projects Octatube has worked on have been shortlisted for this year's Façade 2023 Design and Engineering Awards.
Cherrywood Canopy (Dublin, Ireland) in the categories Project of the Year New Build International and Project of the Year Innovation International
Glulam timber, glass and steel – are paired into an elegant, transparent double-curved canopy covering a lush green sunken garden. This one-of-a-kind structure, designed by Benjamin Thomas of MOLA Architecture, is seemingly simple: three V-shaped columns carry a curved timber grid covered with glass. But there is more than meets the eye. Read more about this project here.
Tropical Fruit Warehouse (Dublin, Ireland) in the category Project of the Year New Build International
Two historic warehouse buildings are carefully restored and topped with a spectacular glass box. In this extraordinary design by Henry J Lyons Architects, the warehouses, which feature intricate masonry and stonework, melt together with the transparent glass box that floats above it like a light, contemporary jewel. Shell C30 (The Hague, The Netherlands) in the category Project of the Year Refurbishment International
A stately office building that evokes memories of Dutch architecture from the 16th and 17th centuries has undergone a large-scale renovation. Part of this renovation was covering a monumental courtyard with a gridshell canopy. A challenging task in engineering, construction, production and assembly. Introducing an integral, multidisciplinary way of working in an early stage enables us to meet these challenges. Read more about this project here.
