Octatube building facades of Echo

At the TU Delft campus, a new educational building is being build: Echo. Octatube is responsible for the continuous glass facades and roof lights.

TU Delft sees the number of students grow and with that the need for larger and more flexible education space. The new cross-faculty building Echo will therefore offer a wide variety of teaching rooms to reflect the diversity of teaching methods and study styles.

The Echo building will be an energy providing. The design by UNStudio follows the principles of circularity as much as possible and thus meets the progressive sustainability ambitions of TU Delft.

Octatube has started with the installation of the facades. The facades consist of large glass panels. The largest is about 2.6 by 5 meters and is 5 cm thick. The panels are coated, providing an optimal combination of desired transparency and necessary sun protection

The glass panels are framed at the top and bottom in thermal aluminium U-profiles that Octatube designed specially for Echo. On the second floor of the building, small thin steel swords hold the large glass panels in place. In the west facade, we place a double-height glass facade without a canopy. Sharp-edged steel tubes support this facade.
