New project: PC Hooftstraat 138
We’re proud to share the completion of this unique façade in the famous P.C. Hooftstraat shopping district in Amsterdam. The façade was designed by UNStudio and is aptly named “The Looking Glass”. We were invited as a Design & Build partner to do the technical design, the production and the assembly of this remarkable design.
It’s a façade where form follows function and vice versa. Three curved glass panels descend from the upper floors, resembling the flow of frisky fabrics. The panels are bonded with structural silicone to the adjacent glass panels. Stainless steel profiles in between the panels form the glass box shape. It’s a reimagination of a display of clothes and creates a distinctive retail presentation on pedestrian eye level.
The combination of the curved shapes in stainless steel, glass and silicone bonding had to be perfect. Therefore, the three glass facades were fully assembled in our factory and mounted as a single unit on site. Quite a unique and challenging production!
The glass boxes are surrounded by special brickwork, which we executed. Up to the first soldier course of bricks a stainless steel strip is incorporated in the joints.
In the coming weeks we will share more about the production process, so keep an eye on our website and social media channels!
This remarkable façade, for client Warenar Real Estate, came together in collaboration with UNStudio, ARUP, Brouwer & Kok and Wessels Zeist.
