Two Nominations 'Dutch Construction Award' 2015
The cablenet facades of the Market Hall are nominated for the 'Dutch Construction Award' 2015 in the category building materials and building systems. Also the extension of the Mauritshuis museum has been nominated in the category for buildings. This has been announced today at a lare press conference. Out of 111 applications the professional jury has nominated 3 buildings and 3 building systems.
For the Market Hall (MVRDV) in Rotterdam Octatube has realised two large cablenet facades of 34 by 42 meters.
The jury report states:
A very intelligently engineered system with an synergy between structure and architecture (like the construction of cathedrals) that shows a lot of courage. Despite the fact that application on larger scale is limited, the system is very suitable for building with a public interior space. The jury finds the structures of Octatube - time and time again - very fascinating. A very innovative facade, transparent and slender for a very special building with minimal use of materials. The facades are completely recyclable and thanks to the facades the Market Hall doesn't have to be warmed by installations.
For the extension of the Mauritshuis museum (Hans van Heeswijk Architecten) Octatube has realised the full glass elevator shaft and a large walkable floor glass unit.
The winners of the 'Dutch Construction Award' will be announced by category on Monday the 9th of February 2015 during the 'Prom of the Dutch Building Sector'.
