Benelux Award for Galvanizing 2015
The cast clamping nodes of the Market Hall’s cablenet facades have won the Benelux Award for Galvanizing in the category for characteristic steel building parts. The jury has studied 119 submissions and rewarded a price in six categories. The award ceremony took place in the Eye Film Museum in Amsterdam yesterday, and was organized by Zinkinfo Benelux, the branch organization for galvanizing in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg.
The award is intended for projects that are innovative in design, architecture and/or structure, partly thanks to the use of galvanized steel. About the cast clamping nodes of the cablenet facades of the Market Hall in Rotterdam, the jury stated the following:
“A building that already has a unique and distinctive appearance, is also featured by a very special detail. The arched glass facades had to be as transparent as possible. To achieve this, the largest cable facades in Europe have been realised. The jury is impressed by the slenderness of the galvanized steel nodes and the allowable deformation under extreme wind loads.”
This year the tenth edition of the biennial Benelux Award for Galvanizing was held. Zinkinfo Benelux will publish all projects in a special book.
