Voor de verbouwing van het station in Alphen aan den Rijn heeft Octatube vijf verschillende voorzieningen voor zijn rekening genomen. For the renovation of the train station in Alphen aan den Rijn Octatube has constructed several facilities.
The glass balustrades that are running along the platform don’t have mullions and are fixed at their base. On the platforms of the station three glass elevators are built within a very short timescale because of the proximity of the train tracks. To achieve this, the elevators are designed as prefab elements as much as possible. The staircase that goes down is cladded with translucent frosted glass. The roof light of this staircase is partly walkable. Finally, the bicycle storage underneath the platform has been closed by a curtain wall where the glass was printed with images of bicycles. Also the famous ‘bicycle apple’ has been designed by Octatube in collaboration with KuiperCompagnons. Here the apple’s geometry was the greatest challenge.
