New project in Düsseldorf
In the heart of Düsseldorf Octatube will be realising a curtain wall and aesthetic weathering steel skin for a two story pavilion with a roof terrace. The pavilion will be built at the Martin-Luther-Platz square next year.
The inner façade structure is a transparent curtain wall and the second skin consists of perforated Corten steel providing sun protection. Both the second floor and the roof are supported by five solid timber wall elements, these will be realised by the main contractor. The pavilion will house a restaurant which will bring life into the city plaza. During the day, visitors can peek out through the perforated steel, while in the evenings light shines outward, resembling a large lantern. The architectural design is drawn by Molestina Architekten. Octatube has been commissioned by Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG.
The project is part of a large refurbishment at Martin-Luther-Platz, in which several changes will be made, such as redirecting the U-Bahn. This summer Octatube has embarked on the design and engineering of the facades. Construction will commence in February and the project will be realised in the summer of 2017. Next year marks the 500th anniversary of the year Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the castle Church in Wittenberg.
