The OWO Courtyard Pavilion wins SFE Award 2024

On 6 November 2024, the remarkable OWO Courtyard Pavilion received the UK New Build Project of the Year Award during the award ceremony of the prestigious SFE Façade 2024 Design and Engineering Awards in London. These awards from the Society of Façade Engineering (SFE) and CIBSE (the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) recognise outstanding achievements in façade engineering. We were already incredibly proud of the six nominations for three of our projects, but it is exceptional to win three of these nominations: for the renovation of the Channel 4 façade, we received two awards as well!

The OWO Courtyard Pavilion is located in the courtyard of the former Old War Office (London, UK). The 165m2 round pavilion was designed by DaeWha Kang Designs and features a strikingly shiny mirror-polished 3D stainless steel roof. The extraordinary geometry has no straight lines and therefore required custom solutions and skilled craftsmanship.

Octatube translated the design into a technical proposal, optimised the steel structure, and built the pavilion. We designed a slim and light steel structure to minimise the impact on the historic environment. Additionally, the focus on disassembly and reuse of the entire structure influenced the design and details.

It was a complex and challenging task that required a high degree of skill, expertise, and attention to detail from all involved partners and suppliers. Thanks to excellent collaboration, a beautiful result stands.
