Octatube's fist timber and glass gridshell
The Campus Canopy, a design by Benjamin Thomas of MOLA Architecture, will come to life over the course of the coming year. This glulam and glass gridshell canopy of approximately 25x19 meter covers a sunken garden on the premises of The Campus, Cherrywood in Dublin. The gridshell is double curved and clad with cold bent twisted glass. The canopy will be supported by three steel V-shaped columns.
Octatube has been involved all the way from pre-engineering to installation, the latter currently in full swing. Structural validation of the timber edge beam, cold bending on a natural material, bespoke solutions for maintenance, installation on a non-flat surface – it’s challenges like this that gets our blood flowing.
